About the Artist

Clare Wright

My name is Clare Wright and I live and work on the edge of the town of Loughborough, Leicestershire with my loving husband Duncan. I love to paint when I can but also use my painting and card making skills to help me relax after a hard day in the office as it helps me to unwind.

I am passionate about painting and have enjoyed painting and other art related crafts from a very early age.

Even before I started my GCSE’s I was either drawing pictures for my family or making and painting plaster of Paris moulds with my best friend to sell on the front wall of my parents house (always the entrepreneur!).

After getting an A grade in GCSE Art I went on to study Art and Graphics at A Level amongst other subjects, whilst continuing to learn other crafts like making friendship bracelets to sell to my friends or teachers.

At University I decided to study Business Studies instead of Art for my career but continued art related projects as a hobby.  It was 3 months before graduation that one of my house mates first introduced me to a book by Lin Wellford called ‘The Art of Painting Animals on Rocks’ (Stone Menagerie - Rock Art by Artist & Author Lin Wellford).  This was the start of many things to come.

I suddenly became very ill 2 weeks before graduating from University and after having a major operation in hospital was signed off work for 3 months.  It was during this time that I was given my own copy of the book by Lin Wellford and I spent many happy hours painting stones whilst gradually getting better.

Only a year after this (in 2000), I had my very first Craft Fair with my mum at a local school, where my ‘Millennium Bug’ stones were a huge hit with the children and I have been addicted to painting stones ever since.

It was 5 years later in 2005 when I really got into painting pots and making cards as well as painting stones.  After learning what techniques I needed to paint pots and protect them, I started to sell some of these at craft fairs too.  Many people made comments about how nice they were and they started to be quite popular.  I also gave some of my friends a personalised painted pot for either a birthday or wedding present.  However it was only after painting a very large pot for work that I finally decided to put a website together to let others see and/or purchase my work.
