Hand Painted Pots
The pots I use at The Painted Pot Shop are all terracotta. The word “terracotta” comes from Latin and means “baked earth”. It is the natural texture of terracotta, which provides the perfect canvas for me to bring extra colour and style onto the pot.
All my pots are carefully and lovingly painted to your requirements. Designs can be based on a special occasion e.g. Birthday, Christmas, Easter, Fathers Day etc or just on a topic of interest e.g. birds, flowers, fish, sports. Text can also be included around the rim if desired to make the pot even more personal.
To get an idea of the kind of pot I could paint for you please look at one of the following gallery pages:
There are other uses for my painted pots as well as just for plants. In my small pots you could keep potpourri, or use them just to keep things in e.g. pens, pencils, rulers etc on desks at work. Larger pots could even be used like a gift basket (but a present in itself), which you could fill with other goodies for your friends or family, e.g. bath/shower products.
With my painted pots you are able to put a living plant straight into the pot without having to keep it in an inner pot as well. The reason for this is how it is treated it before it is painted.
How I paint your pot
There are 3 main steps to painting your pot and saucer
(1) Before my pots are painted the inside and outside of the pot and saucer are given 2 coats of a special base coat to seal them. Terracotta pots are quite porous so if I started to paint them without the base coat, they would not only soak up a lot of the paint but when a plant is put in the pot, the water from the soil would work its way from inside of the pot to the outside and this would cause the exterior finish to bubble or start peeling.
(2) For all the artwork on the pot and saucer I use good quality water-based Acrylic paints.
(3) Finally the pot and saucer is given 2 coats of a clear indoor/outdoor sealant. This makes them weatherproof so they can be used either in the home, office or even in the garden. The sealant also gives the pot a lovely feel and shine to it to make it stand out.
By me painting your pot in these steps it should stay in good condition for years to come.
